Turkish foreign minister to visit Austria

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to visit Austria on April 29–30 for a series of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and addressing key regional and international issues. 

During the visit, Fidan is scheduled to hold talks with Austria’s Foreign Minister, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, and is also expected to meet with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.

The agenda includes a meeting with Feridun Sinirlioğlu, Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, as well as a speech at the Vienna Diplomatic Academy and discussions with representatives of Turkish non-governmental organisations.

Talks between the Turkish and Austrian sides are expected to cover a broad range of bilateral issues, including political relations, economic cooperation, trade, defence, and cultural exchange. Particular focus will be placed on boosting trade volume, encouraging investment, and expanding collaboration in sectors such as energy, digitalization, transportation, and defense.

On the political front, Fidan is expected to reiterate Türkiye's commitment to full membership in the European Union and advocate for a more strategic framework in relations between Ankara and the bloc.

The visit will also address pressing international issues. Discussions are expected to include the need to sustain negotiations related to the war in Ukraine, efforts to ease tensions between Iran and the United States, and the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Fidan is also set to comment separately on the situation in Gaza.
