Turkish Navy tackling mine threat in Black Sea VIDEO
Turkish naval vessels have spent a total of 6,747 hours combing the country's coastal zone in the Black Sea for mines, while Turkish naval aircraft flew 1,496 hours for the same purpose, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Turkish National Defence Ministry’s Twitter page.
Given the likelihood of mines laying off the Turkish coast, the Turkish side issued a Notice to Mariners to ship captains on March 18, 2022.
The activities to eliminate the mine threats in the western Black Sea continued by the Navy in coordination with the Coast Guard Command and other authorities.
Patrol aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), minesweepers and patrol vessels are involved in the search for sea mines.
The Istanbul Strait (Bosphorus) is secured using electro-optical surveillance systems. When a mine is detected, Special Air Service (SAS) teams are deployed to the sector.
