Turkish president condemns Trump's Gaza plan as "major threat to world peace"

14 February 2025 09:02

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan strongly criticised U.S. President Donald Trump’s reported plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza, calling it a serious threat to global stability.

Speaking in an interview with Indonesian television broadcaster Narasi on February 13, Erdogan denounced Trump’s proposal, which allegedly aims to relocate over 2 million Palestinians, place Gaza under U.S. control, and develop it as the “Riviera of the Middle East”, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

“I view Trump’s decision to make such an agreement with a murderer like [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu and his threats as a major threat to world peace,” Erdogan said.

The Turkish leader rejected any notion of removing Palestinians from their homeland, warning of the potential repercussions of such an action.

“At the moment, nobody can take Gaza away from Palestinians, from Gazans. Daring to do something like this is, firstly, a very different threat to world peace,” he emphasised.

Erdogan also criticised Trump’s foreign policy stance, saying it presented challenges to multiple nations worldwide.

“My hope is that such mistakes are reversed as soon as possible, and for a global giant like the United States to rapidly turn back from these errors so that global peace can find a way to come out,” he stated.

Trump’s reported proposal has sparked outrage across the Arab world and raised deep concerns among European powers. Many critics argue that the plan seeks to permanently resettle Palestinians out of Gaza in order to transform the coastal enclave into a high-end resort area under U.S. administration.

There has been no official confirmation from Washington regarding the details of the plan, but Erdogan’s remarks reflect growing international resistance to any forced displacement of Palestinians. Meanwhile, regional leaders have called for urgent diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation of tensions.
