Türkiye condemns action of Israeli ambassador to UN

Spokesman for the Turkish ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Parti) Omer Celik has condemned the recent act of Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan.

“Erdan demonstratively shredded the UN Charter on the UN podium which testifies to Tel Aviv’s non-recognition of international law,” Celik wrote on X, Gazeta.Ru reports.

“The fact that after the adoption of the Palestinian resolution, the Israeli ambassador to the UN on the podium tore up the UN Charter by using a paper shredder once again showed that Israel does not recognise international law,” Celik wrote.

This incident occurred during the speech of the representative of Israel in the General Assembly on May 10 regarding the vote on the possibility of admitting Palestine to the UN.

On that day, the UN General Assembly recommended the UN Security Council to “positively reconsider” its decision on the possibility of recognising Palestine as a UN full member.

The adopted resolution does not mean the acceptance of Palestine in the UN. This issue will be brought up again at a meeting of the Security Council. It will choose a country which can be recognised as a UN member.
