Türkiye detains dozens in wide-scale FETÖ operation across provinces PHOTO
Turkish authorities have detained 80 suspects in operations targeting the terrorist organisation FETÖ across 12 provinces, coordinated from İzmir, Türkiye’s Interior Ministry announced.
The operations were carried out by the Intelligence Directorate of the General Directorate of Security, the Counter-Terrorism Department, and public prosecutors' offices, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
According to the ministry, the suspects are believed to have been involved in the organisation's so-called educational, women's, and men's units, held leadership positions within those structures, and provided financial support to the network.
The operations were conducted in the provinces of İzmir, Adana, Aydın, Balıkesir, Bilecik, Denizli, Düzce, Isparta, Kütahya, Manisa, Niğde, and Uşak.
The Interior Ministry said that some of the suspects had allegedly participated in organisational camps disguised as overseas trips and facilitated the operation of the group's safe houses.
During searches, law enforcement officers seized foreign currency, precious metals, and cash worth approximately 3.3 million Turkish lira (around $92,500), as well as documents and digital storage devices.
The Fethullahist Terrorist Organisation (FETÖ) is described by Turkish authorities as a clandestine network led by cleric Fethullah Gülen, who lived in self-imposed exile in the United States until his death in 2024.
The group was once aligned with Türkiye’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) but was formally designated a terrorist organisation in 2016 after relations between the two sides collapsed.
