Türkiye develops smart underwater mine
Türkiye has developed the world's first "smart" long-range underwater mine (UCA).
The explosive device can be dropped from distant heights by F-16 fighter jets and Akinci and Aksungur drones, which makes it invulnerable to several air defence means, Gazeta.ru reports, citing the Turkish newspaper Star.
According to the developers and engineers of the mine, the main goal of the project is to turn the MK-84 aviation bomb into offensive naval mines. To this end, the designers added a winged guidance kit, an intelligent "stuffing" to identify targets and a mine-launching device to the UCA.
In addition, the mine is equipped with powerful aerodynamic characteristics that allow aircraft and drones to remotely place mines at the exits from enemy naval bases and on transit routes, without the risk of falling under fire.
