Türkiye implements stricter export regulations to Palestinian Authority
Türkiye has tightened export controls on goods destined for the Palestinian Authority in an effort to enforce its ban on exports to Israel.
This follows Türkiye's imposition of an embargo on exports to Israel in May 2024, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.
Some traders in the Palestinian Authority took advantage of this by ordering goods from Türkiye under the guise of Palestinian businesses and then reselling those items to Israeli buyers, resulting in a dramatic increase in exports of cement and steel from Türkiye to the Palestinian Authority.
The new regulations require traders to secure a certificate from the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Economy, confirming that the goods they are ordering are genuinely intended for the Palestinian market.
It's important to note that Türkiye's exports to Israel often transit not only through the Palestinian Authority but also via the ports of Greece, Bulgaria, and other countries in the region. However, the Palestinian route is the most direct and cost-effective since it allows for shipments to reach Israeli ports without entering the ports of other countries.
Earlier, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reaffirmed Türkiye’s strong support for Palestine, stressing that Israel continues its military operations in the occupied territories and the Gaza Strip. "As the enemy of oppressors and protector of the oppressed, Türkiye stands by Palestine in its struggle for freedom and dignity against the network of genocide," Erdoğan declared during a meeting with local officials in Istanbul.
He further criticized global powers, stating, "The U.S., Europe, and the U.N. Security Council have become mere toys in the hands of a ruthless murderer known as Netanyahu," referring to Israel's Prime Minister.
Pointing to the devastating child death toll amid Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza, Erdoğan lamented, "20,000 children have died. Not one person has stepped forward to say, 'this is shameful.'" He added, "Tens of thousands of women have died, and women's rights organizations have not uttered a word."
Erdoğan also highlighted the deaths of journalists, saying, "Some 175 journalists have died, and the international media does not care at all." He assigned "the responsibility for the massacre of 50,000 innocents" directly to Israel’s forces and those providing "unconditional support" to the Israeli government.
He expressed admiration for Palestinian resistance leaders, stating, "I wish God's mercy on Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader who was martyred recently," and emphasized their legendary status "not only through their struggles but also through their martyrdom."
