Türkiye, Gulf states to lead Gaza reconstruction, Erdogan says
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan underscored Ankara’s commitment to the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that the initiative would be undertaken in collaboration with Gulf countries.
“Rebuilding Gaza will not be an easy task, but we will take this step together with the Gulf countries,” Erdogan told reporters on his return flight from a regional tour, Anadolu Agency reports.
He highlighted that discussions are ongoing regarding a multifaceted Gaza task force, with Türkiye prepared to provide comprehensive support to the territory.
“Israeli attacks have, regrettably, devastated Gaza’s infrastructure, necessitating extensive reconstruction efforts. The process will begin with the deployment of construction equipment, followed by comprehensive measures to restore critical infrastructure. Gaza has endured prolonged brutality that stands as a lasting disgrace to humanity. We must unite to ensure a dignified and prosperous future for our brothers and sisters in Gaza. Türkiye will mobilize all available resources and exert every effort to realize this objective,” the Turkish president emphasized.
Erdogan also stressed the need to hold Israel accountable, calling for sanctions and arms restrictions to ensure that commitments to Gaza are upheld.
On the sidelines of his Gulf visit, the president confirmed discussions with Qatar and Oman concerning the procurement of Eurofighter jets. “The talks, which involve many technical details, are progressing positively,” he said. Erdogan noted that the acquisition of the Europe-made fighter jets would significantly strengthen the Turkish Air Force.
