Türkiye issues ultimatum to Iran over PKK support Amid new joint combat initiative with Iraq
Türkiye has taken a firm stance against Iran regarding alleged support for the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), issuing a stern warning during a high-level meeting in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.
This development comes as Türkiye and Iraq have recently reached an agreement to establish a "joint combat and operations center" aimed at combating PKK activities, Caliber.Az reports citing Turkish media.
Türkiye has accused both the United States and Iran of supplying drones and missiles to the PKK. In response, Turkish officials presented photographic evidence of the alleged weapon shipments at an airport to Iranian representatives during the recent meeting.
The Iranian delegation, however, denied these allegations, asserting that the cargo in question had no connection to the PKK. Despite this, Turkish officials conveyed a clear warning to Iran: any future weapons shipments to the PKK would be met with destruction. Additionally, Türkiye provided documents showing that Iran had previously facilitated the transfer of PJAK (Iranian-based offshoot of the PKK terror group) terrorists to regions along the Turkish border and demanded an end to such activities.
Turkish representatives also emphasized that Iranian interference in Türkiye’s operations against the PKK would not be tolerated.
The meeting in Sulaymaniyah was attended by officials from Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry and security forces, as well as Iranian diplomats, and also featured the presence of EU and US ambassadors, alongside representatives from international and public organizations.
