Türkiye refutes alleged Iran invasion plot as disinformation

25 February 2026 13:16

The Turkish government has dismissed media reports claiming that “Türkiye allegedly plans to invade Iranian territory for security reasons in the event of a US attack on Iran” as disinformation, the Centre for Combating Disinformation stated on X.

An official statement emphasised that “Türkiye has always respected the territorial integrity and sovereignty of neighbouring countries, and border security measures are undertaken around the clock regardless of crises.”

Authorities stressed that the public should rely on official statements and not trust unverified reports.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Türkiye has been adjusting its military and contingency planning amid rising tensions over a possible US-led strike on Iran, with NATO shifting some of its advanced surveillance activity in Turkish airspace toward monitoring Iran.

The sources Bloomberg cited said Ankara fears that a broader conflict could produce significant instability inside Iran and trigger a large refugee influx toward Türkiye’s eastern border, prompting preparations to manage that scenario.

As part of those contingency plans, officials are reportedly considering establishing border camps and, in an extreme case of power vacuum or chaos in Iran, limited entry to prevent mass crossings, though such moves are framed as humanitarian/security measures, not offensive invasion.
