Türkiye’s BOTAŞ to boost Ceyhan oil storage capacity to 45 million barrels
Oil storage capacity at the Ceyhan port will be significantly expanded, Abdülvahit Fidan, the General Director of Türkiye’s state pipeline company BOTAŞ, announced.
Speaking at an event organized jointly by Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) and the Competition Authority, Fidan recalled that current storage tanks in Ceyhan have a capacity of 1 million barrels. He said BOTAŞ plans to gradually increase this figure to 45 million barrels, according to Turkish media.
“The project in Adana province will enhance Türkiye’s resilience to energy crises and at the same time enable the country to play a more active role in regional energy markets,” he said.
Fidan added that the project includes the construction of a total of 40 new crude oil storage tanks. The first six tanks are expected to begin construction in 2026, with the first phase scheduled for completion by 2028, and full completion planned for 2030–2031.
He emphasized that the long-term plan will not only increase Türkiye’s energy storage capacity but also create a critical buffer mechanism against supply disruptions.
Regarding natural gas storage, Fidan noted that Türkiye aims to raise its gas storage capacity to 20 billion cubic meters by 2028.
