Türkiye’s FM says Putin ready for Ukraine ceasefire "under certain conditions"
Russian President Vladimir Putin is prepared to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine “under certain conditions,” Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said, according to Welt am Sonntag.
Fidan noted that both Moscow and Kyiv are demonstrating increased interest in reaching a peace agreement. After years of a war of attrition, he said, each side has recognised “the limits of its capabilities.”
“As we understand it, Mr. Putin is also ready to agree to a ceasefire and a comprehensive peace agreement under certain conditions,” the minister stated.
Ankara has maintained active diplomatic engagement with both sides since the start of the conflict, repeatedly positioning itself as a mediator.
Fidan's optimism ties into the revised U.S. peace framework, leaked November 18 and scaled from 28 to ~20 points after the November 23 Geneva talks. The plan proposes immediate ceasefires, territorial freezes (favouring Russia's Donbas gains), military limits on Ukraine, and NATO neutrality—elements Putin has called a "foundation" but Kyiv rejects as a "Russian wish list."
