Türkiye’s Operation NARKOKAPAN-9: Nearly 3,000 drug traffickers detained

23 January 2025 11:31

Türkiye’s relentless fight against drug trafficking reached new heights with the launch of Operation NARKOKAPAN-9, targeting illegal networks across 77 provinces.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya shared the operation's impressive results on social media platform X, Caliber.Az reports.

“Operation NARKOKAPAN-9 was a comprehensive strike against drug traffickers,” Yerlikaya stated. “In this single operation, we detained 2,795 suspects and seized an astounding 1,050 kilograms of drugs and 13.8 million psychotropic pills.”

This isn’t the first significant operation of its kind. Earlier, Yerlikaya highlighted another recent large-scale effort: “In an earlier operation, 595 suspects were arrested, and law enforcement confiscated 2,006 kilograms of drugs along with nearly 2.9 million psychotropic tablets.”

Among the series of anti-drug initiatives, Operation NARKOKAPAN-2 stands out for its precision. It specifically targeted dealers in Istanbul’s Esenyurt and Başakşehir districts. Yerlikaya explained, “During that operation, eight suspects were arrested, including two foreign nationals. Authorities seized 95.5 kilograms of synthetic drugs, 74 kilograms of cocaine, and over 1 million psychotropic pills.”

The success of NARKOKAPAN-9, along with previous operations, highlights Türkiye’s robust anti-narcotics strategy and its resolve to tackle the issue with unyielding force. The country’s proactive stance is setting a strong example in the global fight against drug trafficking.
