These new assets will play a vital role in bolstering the EDF’s combat support units, specifically within the 1st and 2nd Infantry Brigades.
“These vehicles were carefully designed and tailored to meet the exact needs of our forces,” explained Marek Mardo, a spokesperson for the Defence Investment Center. “From the outset, we worked closely with the Turkish manufacturers to ensure that the final products would be nearly ready for use as soon as they arrived in Estonia. All that remains is the installation of communication and other essential equipment, which we will handle locally.”
The armoured vehicles are packed with features, including a 12.7 mm machine gun, ensuring they are well-equipped for various defence scenarios. Additionally, four of the newly delivered 4x4 vehicles will be allocated to Estonia’s Rescue Department. These vehicles, while designated for rescue operations, will also serve the Police and Border Guard Department, and even the Internal Security Service, should the need arise.
The vehicles come as part of a comprehensive 10-year contract, which not only covers the purchase of the vehicles but also provides for spare parts and future acquisitions.
Estonia’s decision to invest in these advanced armoured vehicles aligns with its growing security needs and its strategic defence priorities. The collaboration with Türkiye highlights the strengthening ties between the two nations in the defence sector, providing Estonia with the tools necessary to safeguard its national interests.
As military threats continue to evolve, these modern armoured vehicles will play a crucial role in Estonia’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively to any challenges, ensuring that both the Estonian Defence Forces and the Rescue Department are well-equipped for a wide range of operations.
