Türkiye to hold meetings with London investors to stabilise national currency
Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek and Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan will hold investor meetings in London this week.
According to Reuters, the announcement was made on March 30 by the Ministry of Finance and bankers.
Bankers said the meetings will focus on policy continuity, reducing inflation, and the economy’s strengths.
Türkiye’s Treasury and Finance Ministry confirmed the meetings will take place but did not comment on their agenda.
The most recent similar meetings were held in January in the United Kingdom and the United States.
Türkiye is taking steps to stabilise the lira and limit the impact of the war on markets, including selling foreign currency and raising the overnight interest rate to 40%.
This month, the Central Bank again paused its easing cycle, keeping the key rate at 37% due to inflation risks linked to the consequences of the war.
Bankers calculated that since the start of the Middle East conflict, the central bank has sold $45 billion in foreign currency, which helped stabilise the lira.
