Türkiye warns against attempts to ignite civil war in Iran
Hakan Fidan, the foreign minister of Türkiye, has warned that external actors are attempting to ignite a civil war and deepen internal divisions in Iran.
Speaking at a press conference following talks with Johann Wadephul, foreign minister of Germany, Fidan said Ankara firmly opposes any efforts to provoke instability within Iran, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“We see attempts from outside to impose an agenda on Iran. We are categorically opposed to any plans aimed at inciting a civil war in Iran or provoking conflicts based on ethnic or gender issues. We warn those who want to engage in such adventures that no one should attempt this. We will never allow such a wrong step to be taken,” Fidan said.
The Turkish foreign minister emphasized that Ankara is making significant efforts to help bring the ongoing conflict to an end.
“The attack on Iran, of course, is unprovoked. Just as this war and this attack are unjust and illegal, Iran’s strikes on other countries in the region—especially the states of the Persian Gulf—are also wrong. We are telling our Iranian colleagues this directly. However, in order to end the conflict as soon as possible, a ceasefire process must be launched,” he said.
Fidan also stressed that any attempt to undermine Iran’s territorial integrity or pursue regime change would be unacceptable.
“Iran should not face threats to its territorial integrity, nor should there be any objective of regime change. The region must return to normal conditions as quickly as possible. In this matter, we consider cooperation with Germany and other European countries to be extremely necessary,” he added.
