Tusk: Poland must be included in Ukraine peace talks or deal lacks legitimacy

20 June 2026 10:47

Poland will not recognise any peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia if it is excluded from negotiations, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said.

Tusk said Warsaw must have a direct role in any talks on a ceasefire or longer-term settlement, arguing that decisions on Ukraine’s future would inevitably affect Poland’s security interests, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

He added that existing consultation formats, such as E3 or E5 groupings of European powers, do not adequately represent the European Union as a whole.

Poland’s position, Tusk said, was that either negotiations should take place through formal EU mechanisms or Warsaw must be directly involved.

Otherwise, he said, Poland would not regard the outcome as legitimate.
