Two killed after light aircraft crashes in North Wales

15 August 2026 10:01

Two people have died after a light aircraft crashed in Gwynedd, North Wales, police said.

North Wales Police received reports shortly after midday on August 14 that a light aircraft travelling from an airfield in England had failed to arrive at Caernarfon Airport as scheduled.

A multi-agency search involving air and ground teams was launched, and the aircraft was subsequently located in a remote area near Trawsfynydd.

Both people on board were pronounced dead at the scene.

Chief Superintendent Owain Llewellyn said: “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those involved in this tragic incident.

“We will support the AAIB with their investigation to ensure the circumstances leading to this incident are fully understood.

“This has been a challenging search operation, and I am grateful to all of the agencies involved for their professionalism and dedication.”

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has been notified of the incident and has deployed a team of investigators to examine the crash.
