Two workers killed in tire explosion at Uzbekistan mining site

Two workers were killed after a tyre exploded during maintenance work at a mining site operated by Uzbekistan’s Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company, the company’s press service said.

The incident occurred at about 3 p.m. on September 10 at a storage site for used vehicle tyres belonging to Transport Department No. 1 at the Pistali site of the Kyzylkum mining administration.

According to the company, a tyre on the trailer of a pipe-hauling truck exploded while workers were carrying out tyre-fitting work, killing two employees.

Law enforcement authorities are conducting a preliminary inquiry into the incident, while state regulatory bodies have launched a special investigation to establish the circumstances and causes of the accident.

The company said its relevant departments were taking the necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
