Uganda plans to lift visa requirements for Russian citizens
Uganda is considering gradually removing visa requirements for Russian citizens and launching direct flights between the two countries, John Leonard Mugerwa, head of the Department of International Law and Social Affairs at Uganda’s Foreign Ministry, announced.
He noted that the decision on direct flights will depend on passenger traffic and must be commercially viable, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
The diplomat emphasised that there are currently no direct flights from Russia to Uganda, noting that Uganda Airlines, the national carrier, serves several international destinations.
"Currently, the main destinations for our national carrier [are located in] Asia. Uganda Airlines operates flights to Mumbai in India, is preparing to launch flights to Guangzhou in China, and flies to Europe, the UK, and Dubai," he explained. Mugerwa added that connecting flights through any of these locations are possible.
The diplomat stressed that as passenger traffic grows, Ugandan citizens will be able to travel to any city in Russia, which is expected to positively impact tourism development.
