UK announces £100 million air defence boost for Ukraine
The United Kingdom has announced a new £100 million (over $130 million) military aid package for Ukraine aimed at strengthening its air defence systems, according to the UK Ministry of Defence.
“The UK will urgently commit an additional £100 million for air defence support to Ukraine, helping to defend the country from Russia’s relentless attacks,” the ministry said in a statement.
Officials said the funding will be deployed rapidly to reinforce Ukraine’s air defence capabilities as the country continues to face sustained aerial attacks.
The latest pledge follows a larger commitment made in February, when the UK announced a £500 million assistance package during a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group at NATO headquarters in Brussels. That package included £150 million allocated to NATO’s PURL initiative, a program designed to procure military assistance for Ukraine with contributions from European allies.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the UK’s total military support for Ukraine now stands at approximately £3 billion.
