UK embassy: New trade envoy to strengthen economic ties with Baku
The newly appointed British Trade Envoy for Azerbaijan and Central Asia John Alderdice will play an important role in strengthening economic ties between Baku and London, according to the British Embassy in Baku.
“Lord Alderdice has been appointed as the UK’s new Trade Envoy for Azerbaijan & Central Asia. His role will be pivotal in driving our growth mission, strengthening economic ties, expanding our partnership and fostering mutual growth,” the embassy wrote on X, according to Caliber.Az.
Notably, John Alderdice, known as Baron Alderdice, has been appointed as the UK's Trade Envoy for Azerbaijan and Central Asia. Alderdice is a distinguished Northern Irish politician, recognized for his leadership roles, including serving as the Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly and as the Leader of the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland. He has also been a member of the House of Lords since 1996.
In his capacity as Trade Envoy, Alderdice is expected to foster and enhance trade relations between the UK and the countries of Azerbaijan and Central Asia. This role involves facilitating business partnerships, promoting economic cooperation, and representing UK interests in the region. The appointment aligns with the UK's strategic focus on strengthening ties with these nations, particularly in sectors such as energy, technology, and infrastructure.
