UK FM says London, Brussels agree to strengthen support for Ukraine

The United Kingdom and the European Union have agreed to work together to strengthen support for Ukraine, promote economic growth, and enhance defence capabilities, the UK's newly appointed Foreign Secretary, Ed Miliband, said following his meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.

In a post on X, he noted that the UK is committed to a deeper strategic alliance with Europe through closer UK-EU ties, Caliber.Az reports.

“Building our Security and Defence Partnership is vital for us at home and abroad. Meeting Kaja Kallas, we agreed to work together to strengthen Ukraine, deliver growth and bolster defence," Miliband wrote.

Kallas and Miliband met in Manila, the Philippines, on the sidelines of diplomatic engagements.

During his visit to the Philippine capital, Miliband also held a series of meetings, including talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Commenting on that meeting, the British foreign secretary wrote: " The closest of allies. United through shared interests, history and culture. It was a pleasure to meet Secretary Rubio today in Manila as we continue to work closely to deliver jobs, security and growth for people on both sides of the Atlantic.”
