UK faces gas shortage as storage levels plummet to two days — report
09 March 2026 11:28
The United Kingdom has only enough natural gas in storage for two days, raising fears of a potential supply crisis following the shutdown of the world’s largest gas complex in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, The Daily Mail reports.
According to National Gas, the UK’s gas reserves have fallen from 18,000 GWh in 2025 to 6,700 GWh, sufficient for just 1.5 days of demand. A similar amount is held in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
By comparison, Europe is better prepared for supply fluctuations, with gas reserves sufficient for several weeks, the report notes.
