UK, Germany to hold meeting in Ramstein format next week
On June 4, the United Kingdom and Germany will convene the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, also known as the Ramstein Format, at NATO Headquarters.
The day after the upcoming Ramstein meeting, on June 5, NATO defence ministers will gather at the headquarters to prepare for the Alliance’s summit in The Hague to be held on June 24-25, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media outlets.
Britain and Germany assumed coordination of the Ramstein Format following the change of presidential administration in the United States. Earlier meetings, starting in 2022 under Joe Biden’s administration, were chaired by the US.
To recall, the previous Ramstein Format meeting was held on April 11 in Brussels, also convened by the UK and Germany. On the same day, Germany and other countries announced the formation of the Electronic Warfare Coalition for Ukraine. Later that day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the Ramstein participants, calling for the supply of 10 Patriot systems.
The first meeting in this format took place after the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine on April 27, 2022. The meeting took place at the NATO air base in Germany and launched the supply of heavy weapons to Ukraine to fight against the Russian Federation. In total, 27 meetings between Ukraine and partners in the Ramstein format have already taken place.
