UK revokes Russian diplomat’s accreditation after London envoy summoned
The UK has summoned the Russian Ambassador to London and revoked the accreditation of a Russian diplomat in response to Moscow’s expulsion of a British diplomat last month.
A Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) spokesperson said the move was a reciprocal measure and condemned Russia’s actions as “unprovoked and unjustified.”
“Summoning the Russian Ambassador, a senior FCDO official made it clear that the UK will not stand for intimidation of British Embassy staff and so we are taking reciprocal action today, revoking the accreditation of a Russian diplomat,” the spokesperson said.
The Foreign Office expressed deep disappointment over Russia’s repeated attempts to disrupt the work of British diplomatic missions and hinder support for Ukraine.
“Any further action taken by Russia will be considered an escalation and responded to accordingly,” the statement added.
