UK’s prime minister calls emergency COBRA meeting amid Iran-Israel tensions
UK’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to convene a meeting of the emergency government committee COBRA to address the escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.
The meeting is expected to take place shortly after Starmer’s return from the G7 Summit in Canada, where he participated earlier this week, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Starmer arrived back in London on June 18 afternoon and will promptly focus on coordinating the UK’s response to the growing regional conflict. Israel launched a military operation targeting Iran’s nuclear programme on the night of June 13. Less than 24 hours later, the Islamic Republic retaliated with a counterattack. In the days that followed, Israel and Iran exchanged further strikes. Both sides reported casualties and damage, confirming that several key sites were hit.
