UK to develop long-range ballistic missiles for Ukraine
The United Kingdom plans to develop new tactical ballistic missiles for Ukraine, equipped with 200-kilogram warheads and capable of striking targets at distances of more than 500 km.
“Under Project Nightfall, the UK has launched a competition to rapidly develop ground-launched ballistic missiles with a range of more than 500 kilometres and designed to operate in high-threat battlefields with heavy electromagnetic interference,” the UK Ministry of Defence said in a statement, Caliber.Az reports.
The missiles, fitted with a 200-kg warhead, are expected to be launchable from various platforms. London estimates it could produce “up to 10 systems per month at a maximum cost of £800,000 per missile (around $1 million).”
“Project aims to boost UK defence industry, supporting innovation and growth while stepping up support for Ukraine into 2026,” the ministry stressed.
Contracts for the development of the new missiles are scheduled to be awarded in March, according to the press release.
