UK truck driver jailed for smuggling cocaine in Kim Kardashian brand underwear
A British court has sentenced a truck driver to more than 13 years in prison after he was caught smuggling cocaine worth an estimated £7 million ($9.4 million) concealed within a shipment of clothing from Kim Kardashian’s Skims brand.
The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) said the driver, 40-year-old Jakub Jan Konkel, was transporting 28 pallets of Skims clothing from the Netherlands when he was stopped by border officials at a port in Essex in September, foreign media reports.
Authorities said Konkel had collected 90 kilograms of cocaine during the journey and used a specially modified truck to hide the drugs in a compartment built into the rear doors. The narcotics were reportedly wrapped in 1-kilogram packages.
The NCA stressed that the clothing shipment itself was legitimate and that neither the exporter nor importer was linked to the smuggling operation.
Investigators said Konkel admitted agreeing to transport the drugs in exchange for a payment of €4,500 ($5,243).
He was sentenced to 13½ years in prison at Chelmsford Crown Court for drug trafficking offenses.
