UK withdraws embassy staff from Iran amid security risks
The United Kingdom has temporarily withdrawn its staff from Iran amid heightened regional tensions, while continuing to operate its embassy remotely, the government said.
In updated travel guidance, the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advised against all travel to Iran, citing security risks and the potential for sudden escalation in the region, Caliber.Az reports.
British nationals currently in Iran — whether residents or visitors — have been urged to carefully consider their presence in the country and the risks associated with remaining there.
The FCDO warned that British and British-Iranian dual nationals face a significant risk of arrest, questioning or detention.
Despite the temporary withdrawal of UK-based staff, the British embassy in Iran will continue to function remotely, the government said.
