UKMTO: Threat level in Strait of Hormuz remains "critical"
22 May 2026 10:47
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency has stated that threats in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf remain at a “critical” level, while the intensity of commercial shipping traffic through the strait remains significantly reduced.
The agency also warned that mine threats and interference with satellite navigation systems continue to raise serious concerns.
In a separate statement, UKMTO noted that the threat of piracy in the region remains “serious”, with three merchant vessels still being held following seizures earlier this spring.
