Ukraine aims to produce 50,000 ground drones by 2026
Ukraine is continuing to expand its development of unmanned ground systems, which are increasingly being used to perform frontline missions in place of soldiers.
The country plans to produce around 50,000 unmanned ground platforms by 2026, Andrii Hrytseniuk, head of Ukraine’s defense innovation cluster Brave1, said in an interview with The War Zone.
According to Hrytseniuk, production is progressing in line with targets previously outlined by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Despite the ambitious goal, Ukrainian officials believe they will be able to supply the military with significantly more robotic systems than in previous years.
He noted that approximately 99% of the drones currently used by Ukraine’s armed forces are manufactured domestically.
The unmanned ground systems sector now includes around 280 Ukrainian companies, which have developed more than 550 different models of robotic platforms.
