Ukraine detains citizens over attempted illegal Starlink registration for Russia PHOTO
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) said it had detained two citizens in the Odesa region for attempting to illegally register Starlink terminals for Russian entities.
According to the SBU, the suspects – a 36-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman from Izmail – were recruited via Telegram channels with promises of “easy earnings,” receiving $30 for each terminal registered.
Authorities said the pair planned to expand the scheme by involving others, including local drug users.
The SBU said it acted pre-emptively, seizing mobile phones containing evidence of coordination with Russia, instructions for legalising the equipment, and details of promised payments.
The suspects have been charged with “state treason committed during martial law by a group acting in premeditated conspiracy,” a charge that carries a possible life sentence.
