Ukraine detains eight over "pro-Kremlin" propaganda, Wagner links PHOTO

19 January 2026 15:52

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has detained eight individuals accused of promoting propaganda and supporting Russia’s military aggression.

The suspects include a capital city court secretary, a repeat offender who had been on the run for four years, a former employee of a defence enterprise, and organisers of underground information channels in several regions.

According to the SBU, the suspects justified the temporary occupation of Crimea and parts of the Donbas region, were involved in preparations for a so-called referendum in Kherson Oblast, called for strikes against Ukrainian industrial facilities, and distributed materials in support of the Russian private military company Wagner.

Linguistic analysis confirmed evidence of their subversive activities.

The detainees face charges including attempts to seize state power, violations of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, collaborationist activities, and justification of armed aggression.

If convicted, they could face up to ten years in prison, with the possibility of asset confiscation.
