Ukraine forms river boat division to strengthen Kyiv's defence

The Ukrainian Defence Ministry has formed a river division of boats to beef up Kyiv's defence.

"At the initiative of the Commander of the Ground Forces, we formed a general division of military boats in the north of the Dnieper [River] to provide support for the ground forces in the riverine operational areas," RBC-Ukraine quotes Ukrainian Navy commander Oleksiy Neizhpapa as saying on Facebook.

According to him, the river division is now performing tasks subordinate to the Kyiv Defence Forces to provide units operating near the Dnieper.

He also noted that in the future a flotilla of river boats will appear on the Dnieper, consisting of several divisions that will be located in different cities.
