Ukraine needs years to restore its energy system, says expert

Ukrainian State Energy Supervision Inspectorate (Gosenergonadzor) chairman Ruslan Slobodian has said that it would take years to fully restore the country's damaged energy system.

"It will take a very long time to restore it, it will most likely take more than a year until it is fully restored," Slobodian said, Gazeta.ru reports.

According to him, as a result of the shelling, the reliability of power grids has severely deteriorated, and at the moment power engineers cannot guarantee an uninterrupted power supply.

"The pace of recovery is commensurate with the pace of new damage," the chairman pointed out.

Slobodian added that the energy situation in Ukraine remains difficult.
