Ukraine, Norway discuss expansion of F-16 initiative
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has held a telephone conversation with his Norwegian counterpart Espen Barth Eide.
During the conversation, they discussed the possibility of expanding the initiative to supply F-16 fighter jets to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Caliber.Az reports, citing Kuleba’s X page.
“I spoke with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide to coordinate the next steps in bringing new countries into the Peace Formula implementation process. I thanked Norway for its participation in the F-16s coalition. We discussed expanding this initiative,” the Ukrainian minister said.
“I also appreciate Norway's efforts to increase its assistance to Ukraine, as well as its decision to take additional steps to strengthen our energy system,” Kuleba wrote.
Norway has joined a number of other countries in providing Ukraine with access to F-16 fighter aircraft, which are crucial to enabling the country to defend itself against the attacks by Russian forces.
In 2023, the Government decided to donate a number of F-16s to Ukraine under the framework of the Air Force Capability Coalition (AFCC) led by Denmark, the Netherlands and the United States. The Prime Minister announced Norway’s decision last year in Kyiv, on Ukraine’s Independence Day.
