Ukraine outlines position on mineral resources deal with US

08 April 2025 22:46

Ukraine has solidified its stance on the upcoming mineral resources agreement with the United States, with plans to finalize its negotiating position in preparation for discussions in Washington.

The announcement came from Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.

"The Ukrainian side will finalize the composition of the negotiating team, which will soon travel to Washington to discuss the draft agreement proposed by the United States. We have already developed our position and vision for the text of the future agreement," he stated.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that the agreement must serve the interests of both parties, ensuring mutual benefit, while aligning with Ukraine's European integration goals. "This is a key principle for the Ukrainian side," Sybiha noted.

Additionally, Sybiha revealed that a leading law firm will be appointed to assist with the negotiation process, and the Ukrainian delegation to Washington will include a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Earlier, Ukrainian Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed that a Ukrainian delegation would be heading to Washington this week to continue negotiations over the new mineral resources agreement, further solidifying the importance of this deal for Ukraine’s economic future and its international relations.

The agreement, once finalized, is expected to enhance Ukraine’s cooperation with the US in the mining sector and contribute to the country’s broader goals of economic development and European integration.
