Ukraine receives $41.7 billion in international aid in 2024
Ukraine secured $41.7 billion in international aid in 2024, which ensured vital social payments despite heavy defense spending, Finance Minister Serhii Marchenko announced in a televised statement on December 30.
"This year, we have already secured $41.7 billion in aid from our partners, which allowed us to fully fund pensions, salaries in the education and healthcare sectors, and the entire humanitarian-social system," Marchenko stated, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
The substantial international assistance has been crucial for Ukraine's stability as it continues to counter Russia's aggression. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal highlighted on Dec. 27 that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), in coordination with the World Bank, has delivered $485 million in humanitarian aid under the PEACE in Ukraine program.
"The funds will be allocated to compensate for social and humanitarian expenditures in the state budget," Shmyhal explained.
Additionally, the United States is intensifying its military support for Ukraine. In response to Russia’s mass attack on Christmas Day, President Joe Biden instructed the Pentagon to "continue its surge" of weapons deliveries to Ukraine, according to a statement from Dec. 25.
Further military assistance is reportedly on the way. On Dec. 27, the Associated Press cited unnamed U.S. officials stating that the U.S. plans to send $1.25 billion in military aid, with an official announcement expected on Dec. 30.
