Ukraine's defence chief says he had "productive call" with his Polish counterpart

Ukraine's Defence Minister Rustem Umierov has said he had a "productive call" with his new Polish counterpart, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

Umierov noted that he had briefed his Polish counterpart on the situation on the front and the recent Russian terrorist attacks, Ukrainska Pravda reports, citing Umierov's X account.

"Grateful to Poland's intentions to increase its role within the capability coalitions, which will benefit the security of Europe and Poland’s national interests. Invited my colleague to visit Kyiv," Umierov stated.

On 4 January, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski explained in detail why further military support for Ukraine is in Europe's interests.

Earlier, Sikorski called for a decisive response to Russia's large-scale missile attack on Ukraine on 2 January, such as strengthening anti-Russian sanctions and providing Kyiv with long-range missiles.
