Ukraine’s Epicentr chain loses 7,000 jobs as Russian strikes intensify

Ukraine’s Epicentr retail chain has lost 7,000 jobs over the past month amid intensified Russian strikes, the company’s co-founder, Galyna Gerega, said.

“Over the past month alone, when businesses have been subjected to particularly brutal attacks, we have lost 7,000 jobs. For me, this is the most painful issue. After all, people are the most valuable thing anyone has,” Gerega said.

Since the start of the war, the group has sustained damage at more than 30 facilities, with its cumulative losses estimated at over $1 billion.

Epicentr K is Ukraine’s largest hypermarket chain, specializing in home improvement, household goods and other consumer products. The retailer is often compared with major European chains such as IKEA and Leroy Merlin.
