Ukraine’s international reserves down nearly 20% since start of 2026
07 June 2026 14:08
Ukraine’s international reserves have declined by nearly 20% since the beginning of 2026 despite continued financial assistance from Western partners, data released by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) show.
“Ukraine’s international reserves stood at $45.7 billion as of June 1, 2026. In May, they decreased by 5.2%,” the central bank said in a statement published on its website.
One of the main factors behind the decline was the NBU’s foreign exchange interventions aimed at supporting the national currency. The regulator actively sold foreign currency on the market to smooth fluctuations in the hryvnia’s exchange rate.
Despite these efforts, the Ukrainian currency continued to weaken against the US dollar.
