Ukraine’s largest steel plant to remain shut until war ends

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine’s largest steelworks, does not plan to resume operations until the war ends, the company’s CEO Mauro Longobardo said.

“We have come to the deeply regretful conclusion that we can no longer safely operate ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih,” Longobardo said, as cited by Strana.ua.

According to the CEO, the company is discussing the plant’s future with the Ukrainian government and will focus on preserving its infrastructure so that production can be resumed once peace is established.

The company said the plant had been hit by four missile strikes over the past five weeks. Five people were killed in the latest attack, on September 21.

Following that strike, the company’s management concluded that it was no longer possible to continue operations safely.
