Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy preparing for upcoming winter
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held a meeting of the headquarters for eliminating the consequences of the emergency situation in the energy sector, focusing on preparations for the next heating season in Ukraine.
He announced this via Telegram.
According to Shmyhal, six key areas of work have been identified. These include the repair and restoration of power plants, strengthening the protection of electricity infrastructure, restoring generating capacity and networks in the Kyiv energy hub, attracting humanitarian aid for energy facilities, developing cogeneration, and monitoring the implementation of the headquarters’ decisions.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing repair works and the current state of generation facilities. Shmyhal stressed that the priority is the rapid restoration of equipment and increasing the resilience of the energy system through decentralisation and the deployment of additional capacity.
He added that around 500 MW of energy storage systems have already been installed in the country. It was also noted that the minimum required level of gas reserves in underground storage ahead of the heating season is 13.2 billion cubic metres.
