Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has approved Yevhen Khmara as the country’s new Minister of Defence following his nomination by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Speaking to lawmakers before the vote, Khmara said Ukraine needed to regain the strategic initiative in its war with Russia, emphasising the importance of expanding domestic weapons production and long-range strike capabilities, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
He said Ukrainian-made weapons and long-range strikes should play a central role in the country’s defence strategy.
