Ukraine’s parliament committee backs Yevhen Khmara for defence minister

The Ukrainian parliament’s Defence Committee has endorsed Yevhen Khmara’s nomination for the post of Defence Minister, lawmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak said.

“The Defence Committee has endorsed Khmara’s candidacy for the post of Minister of Defence,” Zheleznyak wrote on Telegram.

The Verkhovna Rada is scheduled to vote on August 19 on Khmara’s appointment as Defence Minister and Andrii Sybiha’s appointment as Foreign Minister.

The parliamentary votes will determine whether the two nominees formally take up the respective positions.
