Ukraine's Security Service eliminates FSB-linked assassins responsible for Colonel Voronich's death
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has successfully located and neutralised the killers responsible for the assassination of SBU Colonel Ivan Voronich in a special operation, the Service’s chief, Vasily Malyuk, announced on the SBU’s official Facebook page.

Following a series of covert counterintelligence actions, Ukrainian security forces identified the group’s location.
During the arrest attempt, the assailants opened fire, resulting in an armed confrontation. The assailants were killed in the exchange of fire. Malyuk emphasised the resolute stance of Ukrainian security forces, stating, “The only prospect the enemy has on Ukrainian soil is death.”
Malyuk expressed gratitude to the officers of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department for their professionalism and support during the operation.
Colonel Ivan Voronich, a veteran operative of the SBU’s 1st Division of the 16th Directorate (Center “A”), which specialises in special operations, was fatally shot in a targeted attack on July 10, 2025. Surveillance footage captured a masked assailant approaching Voronich in a residential parking lot in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district around 9:00 AM. The attacker fired five point-blank shots from a pistol equipped with a silencer before fleeing the scene on foot. Voronich, aged 50, sustained multiple penetrating gunshot wounds and died instantly. The SBU confirmed the killing and opened a criminal investigation under Article 348 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, which pertains to attacks on law enforcement personnel.
