Ukraine’s Zelenskyy backs European leaders’ call for fair end to war
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has thanked European leaders following their emergency statement on peace in Ukraine, stressing that ending the war must be fair.
“The end of the war must be fair, and I am grateful to everyone who stands with Ukraine and our people for the sake of peace in Ukraine, which is defending the vital interests of our European nations," he wrote on X, per Caliber.Az reports.
"Ukraine values and fully supports the statement on peace for Ukraine made by President Macron, Chair of the Council of Ministers Meloni, Chancellor Merz, Prime Minister Tusk, Prime Minister Starmer, President Ursula von der Leyen, and President Stubb,” Zelenskyy added.
The European leaders’ statement, issued on August 9, during a meeting in Britain attended by U.S. Vice President JD Vance, outlined a counterproposal to U.S. peace initiatives, prioritizing a ceasefire, Ukraine’s inclusion in negotiations, and robust security guarantees, including potential NATO membership.
