Ukraine seeks NATO underwater drones, deep-sea gear for demining

Ukraine has requested specialized underwater demining equipment from NATO, including autonomous underwater drones, metal detectors and diving gear, for what it describes as “humanitarian demining” operations.

According to NATO’s press service, the request was submitted through the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) and also covers equipment for the transportation of explosive devices.

“Ukraine has requested through the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) equipment for humanitarian demining and the transportation of explosive devices,” NATO said in a document.

The request includes 10 autonomous underwater drones, 20 heavy-duty helmets for divers operating at depths of more than 50 metres, and 10 communication stations connecting divers with personnel on the surface.

Kyiv is also seeking 50 underwater metal detectors, 1,700 underwater video cameras and 100 remote detonators as part of the requested equipment package.
