Ukraine sells almost 800 tanks since 2007
Ukraine had 3,094 tanks in 2007, 783 tanks of them were mainly sold to African countries, while some tanks were disposed of.
Tanks from Ukraine were sold to such African countries as Ethiopia, Sudan and Nigeria. The matter mainly rests in Soviet tanks T-72, less in T-55, the data of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) says, according to the website Ekonomicheskaya Pravda.
Moreover, Ukraine sold tanks to Thailand in 2015-2018. The contracts included BM-Oplot and T-64BV-1 tanks.
As a result, the total number of tanks was reduced to 1,818 by 2017.
However, it may be inexpedient to buy back the tanks sold earlier to strengthen the army, because they have already been used in Africa for 10-15 years.
“We will have to repair them while the result will be very unpredictable,” Ukrainian military expert Nikolai Salamakha said.
